Privacy Policy

DevCleaner is built with privacy as a fundamental principle. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is stored, and your rights.

1. The short version

DevCleaner does not collect, track, or transmit personal data. There are no analytics, no trackers, no telemetry, and no servers. Everything the App reads or writes stays on your Mac.

2. Information the App accesses

To scan for developer caches and display disk usage, the App reads the following local information:

  • File system paths — known cache locations (e.g. ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData, ~/.npm, ~/.gradle/caches) and project artifact directories (node_modules, build/) under your curated dev folders.
  • File sizes — measured via FileManager and URLResourceValues to calculate how much space each cache occupies. File contents are never read.
  • Disk capacity — total and available volume space, queried via URLResourceValues for the boot disk.
  • iOS Simulator device list — obtained locally via xcrun simctl list devices to identify orphaned (unavailable) devices.

3. Information the App stores locally

The following data is stored on your Mac and never transmitted anywhere:

  • Scan results — the last ScanResult is saved as JSON at ~/Library/Application Support/DevCleaner/last-scan.json so the dashboard loads instantly on launch.
  • Preferences — settings such as enabled categories, excluded paths, custom scan folders, and notification toggles are stored in UserDefaults.
  • Notification throttle date — the date of the last low-disk alert, used to avoid repeated notifications within the same day.
  • Security-scoped bookmarks — when running in the macOS App Sandbox, folder access grants from the system open panel are remembered across launches.

4. What the App does NOT do

  • No analytics or telemetry. The App contains no tracking SDKs, no crash reporters that phone home, and no usage statistics collection.
  • No network requests. The App does not connect to any server. It operates entirely offline.
  • No advertising. The App does not display ads or integrate with ad networks.
  • No file contents are read. Only file paths and sizes are accessed for measurement. The App never opens or reads the contents of your files.
  • No data is shared with third parties. There are no third parties.

5. In-app purchases

The Pro tier is sold through Apple's App Store via StoreKit. Purchase and subscription data is handled entirely by Apple and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. DevCleaner does not receive or store any payment or billing information.

6. Notifications

The App may schedule local notifications (UNUserNotificationCenter) for low-disk alerts and weekly storage digests. These notifications are generated locally and do not involve any server. You can disable them at any time in the App's Settings or in macOS System Settings > Notifications.

7. Launch at Login

If you enable "Launch at Login", the App registers a login item via SMAppService. This registration is stored by macOS and can be revoked at any time in System Settings > General > Login Items.

8. macOS App Sandbox

The App runs inside the macOS App Sandbox when distributed through the Mac App Store. The sandbox restricts file access to folders you explicitly grant via the system open panel. No access is possible without your consent.

9. Your rights

Because the App stores all data locally on your Mac, you have full control:

  • Delete scan data: remove ~/Library/Application Support/DevCleaner/last-scan.json or use the App's Settings to reset.
  • Delete preferences: remove the App's UserDefaults entries or simply delete the App.
  • Revoke access: remove granted folders in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders.
  • Disable notifications: macOS System Settings > Notifications > DevCleaner.

No personal data export or account deletion request is needed because no personal data ever leaves your device.

10. Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from children. The App is a developer tool intended for software developers.

11. Changes to this policy

If the App's data practices change, this Privacy Policy will be updated on this page with a revised date. Since the App is offline-first, significant changes will also be noted in the App's release notes.

This Privacy Policy is designed to comply with applicable privacy regulations, including the GDPR and CCPA. Because DevCleaner does not collect personal data, most regulatory requirements regarding data collection, processing, and transfer do not apply.
